William "Bill" S. Preston, Esquire is a fictional character portrayed by Alex Winter, best known for his role in the Bill & Ted franchise.
Bill first appeared in the 1989 film Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure. He is depicted as a lovable, somewhat dim-witted but ultimately good-hearted teenager from San Dimas, California.
Alongside his best friend, Ted "Theodore" Logan, Bill aspires to be a rock star in their band Wyld Stallyns. Their adventures often involve time travel and encounters with historical figures, all in the name of passing their history class and saving the future.
Winter reprised the role of Bill S. Preston, Esquire in Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey (1991) and Bill & Ted Face the Music (2020), as well as in the animated series and other media adaptations.
